10 things you didn’t know about Jayco

With 45 years of experience, Jayco Australia has an impressive history. From humble beginnings in a garage in Cranbourne to an expansive and state-of-the-art facility in Dandenong with more than 1,000 employees, Jayco is truly a leader in Australian caravan manufacturing.

While well known for its range of recreational vehicles, there are a few quirky facts that you might not know about Jayco, so without further ado, here are 10 things you might not know about Jayco Australia.

  1. Jayco began operations in 1975 from a small garage in Cranbourne. The Jayco head office and production site is now located in Dandenong.
  2. Jayco is a family-owned business and founder Gerry Ryan remains the company’s CEO to this day.
  3. Jayco is the largest vehicle manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere.
  4. An RV comes off one of Jayco’s six production lines every 8.6 minutes – that’s a lot of happy Jayco RV owners!
  5. When it comes to staff, Jayco has over 1,100. The youngest employee is 17 years old, and the oldest is about to celebrate their 70th
  6. The longest serving employee at Jayco clocked 36 years of service in October 2020.
  7. Jayco purchases enough fibreglass sheet in ONE year to cover the MCG playing surface 15 times!
  8. Jayco introduced the wind-up camper trailer in Australia.
  9. Jayco has delivered two world-first releases – the introduction of Amazon Alexa in our RV’s and 360-degree cameras on our caravans.
  10. There’s around 75,000 sqm of roofing at Jayco HQ, which is equivalent to almost three MCG playing grounds. When it rains, water is captured and used to irrigate gardens and flush toilets at HQ.
