15th Mar 2021

There are a few simple steps you can take to make sure your van stays safe and secure. These tips are also good to consider doing while you’re at campsites to ensure your caravan remains secure even when you aren’t around.

Store your van in a safe and secure location

When it comes to storing your van, always store it in a secure spot behind lock and key. If you are getting ready to hit the road and can’t store your van in its usual secure spot, ensure that your using additional security measures like the ones listed below, and try and make sure your van is parked off the street.

Use coupling locks

A coupling lock is a special lock that fits your trailers coupling (the part that connects your RV to the cars tow ball) that prevents thieves from being able to steal your RV. It’s a simple tool to use to ensure your vans safety. Coupling hooks are very inexpensive and easy to pop on, making it a no brainer when it comes to caravan security.

Secure wheels with a wheel clamp

A wheel clamp is another great and simple thief deterrent. The clamp simply fits into your caravan’s wheel and makes it seriously difficult to drive off in the van without seriously damaging it.

Don’t leave valuables in clear sight of potential thieves

If your car is parked in the street, or even in your driveaway, keep any valuable items out of clear sight. Even better, use a caravan cover so no one can easily see inside your van. When at caravan parks, try and keep all valuables inside cupboards in your van and leave the windows down.

Install a GPS tracker

If you want to get serious about security, it is worth looking into installing a GPS tracker. While this isn’t going to stop thieves, it will make it simple to track a missing RV. Most devices use a simple device that is secured to your van and tracked remotely via a separate app and can offer peace of mind when it comes to protecting your RV.
